Saturday Night Live Adds Three Second City Alumni|
Saturday Night Live is adding three new members for its coming 38th season after the recent key exit of Andy Samberg, Kristen Wiig, and Abby Elliott, reports The New York Times.
Cecily Strong, Aidy Bryant, and Tim Robinson are set to cast as the show's featured performers. Strong came from Second City improvisational theater in Chicago and has been an understudy in E.T.C. stage, Bryant trained at iO comedy theater and performed on E.T.C. stage, and Robinson has also performed with Second City’s touring company.
Seth MacFarlene, creator of Family Guy and Ted hosts SNL’s September 15th premiere, with musical guest Frank Ocean.
Although the departure of Samber, Wiig, and Elliot have been confirmed, there was no comment from NBC about Jason Sudeikis’ status to return.
With addition of three Second City alumni, they will definitely give the long-running comedy sketch series a dash of youth in its roster and inject new brand of comedic styles that would appeal to the younger audience. The show has been known to produce talented comedians who have become big in the industry so I’m looking forward for the new cast to showcase their skills and shine as well.
