Female ‘Expendables’ Project First Picks Gina Carano|
There’s now a female version of the Expendables movie in the works, and the first name to come up to play as one of the all-female band of mercenaries is none other than Haywire’s lead actress, Gina Carano.
In an interview with Variety, producer Adi Shankar said of Carano’s involvement, “I don’t know how I’m supposed to make a movie that is supposed to be the female version of the The Expendables without Gina Carano in it. It would be like making Twix without caramel or Jamba Juice without jamba.”
Now that we got one name up, the next obvious question is, “Who are next?” Well, no official word yet from Shankar and his crew though the fellas over at IndieWire’s Playlist dropped a few good names that are sure to pique everyone’s interest, like Sigourney Weaver and Linda Hamilton (heck, let’s even throw in Cynthia Rothrock!) as far as old school is concerned, whereas new school would be the likes of Milla Jojovich and Kate Beckinsale.
Shankar’s production company 1984 Private Defense Contractors (The Grey, Machine Gun Preacher, and Killing Them Softly) will produce the film, while Dutch Southern is tasked to write the screenplay.
After starring in Steven Soderbergh’s film, Haywire, Carano has also landed a part in Justin Lin’s Fast & Furious 6, which is due for release on May 24, 2013.
So what do you think of Carano being the first pick? Who else do you think would fit in perfectly as one of the lead actresses in Shankar’s dream project? We’d like to hear your opinions so feel free to share them in the comments section below.
