Sherlock Holmes has been popular these days with the much eagerly awaited return of BBC’s drama series Sherlock () with Benedict Cumberbatch as the lead character, but there’s another Sherlock that will excite everyone.
Sir Ian McKellen is reported to play the long-retired Sherlock Holmes in Bill Condon’s A Slight Trick of Mind. It is based on a novel of the same title written by Mitch Cullin and the screenplay is adapted by Jeffrey Hutcher.
According to THR the upcoming film details the story of Holmes, the legendary British detective, who is haunted by an unsolved case from 50 years ago, remembering only fragments. Without his sidekick Watson and with his mental powers dwindling, he is facing the toughest case of his life and sets out to solve the mystery once and for all.
The movie marks the reunion for McKellen and Condon, as they’ve worked together on Gods and Monsters in 1998 which got Oscar nominations for both and winning the Best Adapted Screenplay for Condon. Both have been very busy with their careers, McKellen is about to reprise his character as Magneto in X-Men: Days of Future Past, while Condon has his new dramatic thriller film coming out with The Fifth Estate.
A Slight Trick of Mind is set to start production on April 2014 in UK which is produced by Anne Carey under her Archer Gray Productions. Ian Canning (The King’s Speech), Emile Sherman, Aviv Giladi and Len Blavatnik are the executive producers.
